iPadOS is finally here, which means it's finally time to see if Apple has turned the iPad into a real computer - maybe. In this episode of Processor, Dieter Bohn looks at the top things you should do to get the most out of iPadOS.

You touched on something that I've noticed for a while in iOS in general, things don't stay the way you want them to and they change without warning. I wouldn't be so charitable in describing it as you did, for me it's more like "permanent chaos". With automatic app updates now you don't know what changes will suddenly be made to your core apps. Even if you read all the fine print it won't tell you everything until you try it, and then it's too late. Pleasant surprise kind of changes are rare. One exception is iOS Mail's recent return to four menu buttons at the bottom of the app instead of the stupid, consolidated two buttons that hid everything important when iOS 13 was launched. It's a deeply unsettled way to live when you don't know what change for change's sake will suddenly be made, I have no doubt there's a psychological consequence to these unexpected and mostly unwanted changes. For that reason Mac OS is a more sane experience, at least you can stave off the chaos for a little longer by foregoing certain major updates for a while.

Just the fact that people like this man are excited reviewing the iPad says it all. iPad Pro is my gaming device. NBA 2K mobile is rivaling the console graphics. This tablet has the best graphics in any arm powered device.

Why do people always compare an iPad to a Computer? Apple design an iPad to be an iPad if you want a computer. If you want a computer just go buy a Macbook or an iMac. If Apple want the iPad to replace the computer then they would already put MacOS on the iPad.

Seems like people do not get it!! The only relevant question to ask to know if it can be a CoMPuter is to check out, does it have a Terminal that YOU can Control and run commands from to control A computer, to “compute”!? -That is all one need to ask! A raspberry Pi is A computer, an iPad is NOT a computer! LoL... people... lots of babble not much logic to be said the least ! It takes one second to clarify that it is NOT a machine that you can compute on!

For God sake!! Does no one talks about the fragile performance of the Files app, in the new iPadOS, not working properly when trying to “share” a file with other app, only allowing drag-and-drop, or instead sometimes doing the exact opposite, not allowing drag-and-drop and only the “share” option works? Someone?

“iPadOS” - let’s be real, it’s iOS 13 with a new name. iOS is short for “iPhone OS” anyway, and they shortened it BECAUSE of the iPad. It’s supposed to cover everything. I have iOS 13.1 on my iPad. Notice I said iOS and not iPadOS... either way, doesn’t matter, THEY’RE THE SAME THING

You don't know why iOS users laugh at a floating keyboard? It's because they're iOS users. That feature was lifted straight from Android.

Does anybody get a feeling like this review was just meh? In all honesty they went over some of the features of the new OS, a little bit of this that, little of that, this is apple blah blah and well that's all folks. Have noticed this lately that Apple products are reviewed in a very casual way. They just over the same talking points again and again and brush aside anything that Apple has done good. Basically if Apple has done something good and bettered from last year, it's swept aside casually, as "Ohh this Apple this is what they do etc etc.. If Apple does something wrong then we have to label it as some sort of a "gate" make 100 videos about it, provide gossip around the "gate'. With Android to me it seems like these "reviewers" push it as innovation and bench mark and so on and so forth. It's getting a little too boring to watch these reviews and hands-on. I actually started watching the key notes in order to get the list of features and improvements.

Most people would think iPadOS is at a similar level of versatility as ChromeOS. Although, I can argue that iPadOS has more capabilities due to it's larger library of optimized apps make using an iPad as a computer for professionals possible, unlike ChromeOS which derives nearly all of it's capabilities from Google Chrome. I know ChromeOS can run play store apps but most are not optimized for a large display.

I think that what makes iPad OS great is that all this new complication is optional. You can still absolutely use it just like a big iPhone. That doesn't mean that all the new features are implemented well and there is still a lot missing, e.g. a more sophisticated tab management in safari, grouping, pinning and naming windows, access to spotlight when opening a window in split view, etc.

I'm always here for Dieter's take, but I'm a little tongue cheeked by his bit of iOS love here. I sort of get it. It's hard not get a whiff of Apple's direction and not be like "hey that's not too shabby!". But I always feel like Apple is just as much a dad as Microsoft has been. Microsoft is your lame but practical dad. Apple is your hip but out of touch dad. Apple is trying to be innovative here and I do love it, for a company I've always hated as making complexity for the creatives that need it... Inaccessible. I think in the case of ipadOS they're trying to make power user complexity less complex for once instead of working outwards in, it's like the Mac team and iOS team are shaking hands. But it's still just... The Mac team. It's not the archaic DOS days, windows 7 power users IT team flooded with autohotkey and macros. And it's certainly not the headless bash command-line-only rapid mechanical keyboard slamming Linux nerds. It's still trying to make computing easier from the clueless nontechy savey audience inward. And that's fine. But ... It's still not power user. Power users and developers toolkits have barely budged in the apple ecosystem, unless it's for iOS app development. Maybe that will never change. At least not by the time the next big thing takes hold. AR?
